ELT to speakers of Portuguese


There are 15 major areas where Portuguese mother-tongue speakers have problems with English grammar. They are:
– gender of nouns
– negation
– formation of questions
– adjectives: form, agreement and position
– verb conjugation
– verb “to be”
– possessive adjectives and pronouns (related to noun gender)
– articles
– personal pronouns and the use of “you”
– capitalisation
– the number and formation of past tenses 
– infinitive and gerund
– pronunciation problems
– comparison
– word order
